I’ll take one of you don’t want them

That’s the owner’s car, soon to be for sale. It’s ok, the biggest mechanical difference between US RSA’s and base 964 Carreras is no power steering. They’re not nearly as special as the Euro cars, those were seam welded, had thinner glass, and a host of other changes.

I’m sure plenty of people would be willing to give them a good home if you gave them away on here.

Nothing to see here, just move along... How do you get any work done there????
![]() 11/14/2016 at 15:06 |

Hey my dreams are private how did you do that?

![]() 11/14/2016 at 15:13 |

Mostly by being very, very jaded. ;) And I’m not the one working on them anymore, I just get the phone calls and do the paperwork, much less rewarding than actually touching them.

Yeah do you have that in 55 gallon drums?
![]() 11/14/2016 at 15:23 |

Come and get ‘em, no one takes ‘em out enough.
![]() 11/14/2016 at 15:24 |

You can have the black one, it’s the biggest headache.
![]() 11/14/2016 at 15:25 |
|
Is it odd to say that I can smell them from here?
![]() 11/14/2016 at 15:29 |

I’ll deal with your beetles if you deal with my rodent damaged wiring on a brand new car.
![]() 11/14/2016 at 15:32 |

If I can get it for free then yes.
![]() 11/14/2016 at 15:33 |

What’s wrong with it
![]() 11/14/2016 at 15:34 |

Haha not at all, you know damn well what old Germans smell like.

It’s been sitting for a long time, and has injection, engine, brake, and major cosmetic problems because of it.

On second thought, maybe I’ll keep the sports Beetles...
Ugh, I feel your pain. We don’t see new cars, but it’s a fairly rural area so loads of varmint damage. That black 930 had nests throughout the car, it had been sitting for at least a decade.
![]() 11/14/2016 at 15:42 |

Jesus, it was ment to be driven not sit and appreciate
![]() 11/14/2016 at 15:43 |

You’ve gat a few projects in your own garage that need to be finished. Highly rewarding! Speaking of that: I need to get you those heads...
![]() 11/14/2016 at 15:44 |
|
Ok where is this place?
![]() 11/14/2016 at 15:48 |
|
At least it’s now being fixed to be driven, it’s just quite a project.
![]() 11/14/2016 at 15:51 |
|
Damn, sure looks like an invasion!
We’ve got a smaller one of those beetle invasions at work too, just one, though I work at a webshop selling electronic supplies, which makes it somewhat odd.

Wiring stuff didn’t bother me. I actually enjoy it, and the car is super clean. The annoying part is going to be determining who’s paying, since the customer has only had it for 6 weeks. I’m going to at least have to remove the brake booster, some AC lines, and part of the false firewall. At least. Won’t be cheap.
But your black beetle doesn’t sound fun either. Nests and decades old, poorly kept cars are terrible to mess around with.

Hawaii?
![]() 11/14/2016 at 15:59 |

Same here, I sort of specialized in electrical work, I can just work quietly and do my thing. It’s rooting the little bastards out of the car that sucks.
Who does pay in a situation like that? Does the client blame Mercedes-Benz? Perhaps they underestimate the sneakiness of mice.
![]() 11/14/2016 at 16:00 |

Now the red convertible is swarming with the other three in back, we’re doomed.
![]() 11/14/2016 at 16:01 |

I wish. At least Hawaii has rain.
![]() 11/14/2016 at 16:03 |

Oh wait. The red one has Cali plates. Duh.
![]() 11/14/2016 at 16:05 |

That I do... someday. Just having the time and money for those would be rewarding at this point! My wife half-insinuated I should get rid of them yesterday, that wasn’t cool.
WHAT YOU FOUND HEADS?!!? From that Italian contact you made? How much? Man, that’s awesome.
![]() 11/14/2016 at 16:07 |

Everything here has the retro black plates now, it’s seriously out of hand. I half expect to see them on cop cars soon.

I’m not entirely sure how it’s going to work. Luckily this is a Daimler owned vehicle (leased by a Daimler employee), and they have an insurance company for things like this. so probably them. But I really don’t know.

Rodents suck. When my dad and I were pulling the interior out of his 85 Merkur to build it into a rally car we found 1 particularly massive one. We pulled the interior panel from the passengers rear to find that the panel behind the door was completely filled with rat nest. No idea how that much crap got in there considering the only way in was a 1/16" square hole at the bottom.
![]() 11/14/2016 at 16:10 |

Well at least your vintage plates look good.
![]() 11/14/2016 at 16:11 |

Is it not warranty covered?
![]() 11/14/2016 at 16:19 |
|
That’s someone else’s job, hopefully. Good luck with it!
![]() 11/14/2016 at 16:23 |
|
Yeah they do. I’m consistently amazed at the places we find things, given the apparent lack of access.
![]() 11/14/2016 at 16:53 |
|
You know damn well I would drive those for people. Like a dog walker but for cars. They just need to pay for fuel and food.
![]() 11/14/2016 at 18:05 |
|
It’s not a factory defect. It’s external influence. So no it isn’t warranty covered. We might be able to get Mercedes to cover it, either via goodwill or make a case that it happened in their care, but it’s been out of their hands for two months and didn’t indicate an issue on PDI.
![]() 11/14/2016 at 18:06 |
|
Yeah. I still have to explain it to way too many people. Oh well.
![]() 11/14/2016 at 18:12 |

No no, I still need to get you those heads! I still have not heard from that Italo-dude. But I’ll start my search again this week.

I know a guy that does that for a large collection, dream job right there.
![]() 11/14/2016 at 18:36 |

Thanks! Don’t rush yourself at it at all, I’m nowhere near being able to work on the car, unfortunately.
